Qaqortoq
Established as a trading post in 1775, today Qaqortoq is South Greenland's largest city with over 3,400 inhabitants. The city is the economic powerhouse of the region, a fast-growing community with the only shipyard in South Greenland and the only tannery in the entire country, Great Greenland. Qaqortoq is also an important center for education.
There are a number of historical buildings from the colonial era surrounding the old village square with its famous fountain.
Qaqortoq is also home to some of Greenland's most well known artists, writers and photographers. As visitors walk around the town, they can admire the
many stone
sculptures that were carved during the "Stone and Man" project - a unique
permanent attraction.
